Under a competitive best value approach, Greenhut was selected by the Navy to demolish the interior of 2 floors of a Navy hospital and convert these to facilities for critical care, pre and post op surgery, and operating suites. All of the work was performed during continuous operation of the very busy regional hospital, thus requiring daily and hourly coordination with the hospital’s ongoing operations.
Some of the challenging aspects of this work were the removal of existing plumbing and medical gas lines on the renovated floor while not disturbing or damaging the floors beneath. Noise and dust abatement, along with stringent security measures, were of major concern and dealt with on a daily basis.
The 4th floor renovation added a new pre-op and post-op surgical area and a surgical intensive care unit.
The 5th floor provided new operating rooms as well as a number of new medical-surgical beds.
